Statistics or metrics are accessible in several areas across the repository. This article is about metrics related to repository content and reuse. There are five ways to view and download quantitative information about your repository:
The configurable administrator statistics dashboard - Only available to those with admin or reporter privileges
The optional public facing statistics dashboard - This is always available to administrators (via the URL {your base url}/stats and can be enabled for public viewing)
The stats API (https://docs.figshare.com/stats) - Accessing these endpoints with an admin token provides all stats, other users have access to information appropriate to their credentials, and some information is available to anyone.
The Administrator Batch Management Tool - This provides some or all metadata as a CSV file which can then be summarized and analyzed external to the repository.
The repository search page - Facets provide a quick look at the number of items by various properties and the results can be sorted by Altmetric score or the number of citations.
1. Configurable administrator statistics dashboard - This dashboard provides information about views, downloads, citations, storage quota used, storage quota remaining, regional information about views, top viewed, top downloaded, etc., and is available only to administrators and reporters at the institution. You can select the time frame in which the reports are run by clicking the arrow next to Last 90 Days at the top of the page. You can choose a quick view, a relative view or an absolute view. The dashboard can be found by clicking the user icon at the top right and selecting the Statistics option.
Please note, the statistics dashboard only fully works on your production environment as some aspects may not be configured in your stage environment.
This dashboard is powered by Kibana, a platform to display statistics in a visual, interactive way. The widgets in the dashboard can be configured based on your needs. Usually configured during implementation, please be in touch if you would like to make changes to chart/table types or the visualized variables.
To download data as a CSV file, click the down facing arrow (usually lower left) on any widgets and you can export as raw or formatted.
If there are any reports that you and your organization would benefit from seeing regularly, please let us know via support and we’d be happy to add it.
An example of the configurable Kibana powered admin statistics dashboard. This is accessed through an administrator account by clicking Statistics in the account menu dropdown, as show
2. Optional public facing statistics dashboard - This shows high-level information on views and downloads which is filterable by author, subgroup, and date. When enabled for public viewing, this dashboard is linked to the repository through a set of summary statistics displayed on the main page or any group page, above the view of the content. If not public, the dashboard is always available to administrators (via the URL {your-base-url}/stats. To enable or disable for public viewing, please submit a support ticket.
The optional public facing dashboard is accessible to end users from any group page
3. Stats API - All the data available in the dashboards mentioned above, are also available via the stats API endpoints. Statistics for items from figshare.com do not require authentication, others are only available to administrators authenticating with the institution’s unique stats credentials (different from an account token and this is available from Support). Access these endpoints here: https://docs.figshare.com/#stats.
These endpoints provide views, downloads, and shares for items, collections, and projects, and the information can be extracted by object across time or geography.
4. Administrative Batch Management Tool - This provides item metadata as a CSV. It can be used to analyze embargoed items, related materials, funding, and more. For instructions on using this tool, please see: https://help.figshare.com/article/administrative-batch-management
5. The repository search page - The facets provide counts for various variables and the search results can be sorted by citation or Altmetric score. For example, If you select a group from the group facet, you can get a quick view of item counts by item type for that group.
