Many researchers don't want to make their GitHub repos public until the corresponding papers have been published. It would therefore be useful if FigShare could create private items with reserved DOIs from commits in private GitHub repos. The FigShare items and GitHub repos could then both be made public post-publication.

Interesting request, thank you. We'd have to investigate the capabilities of the connection to see if this is practical. We're actually having to revisit the github connection in the new year due to some other aspects and I can roll this in to those investigations.
